Community Investment
TasNetworks is committed to supporting local community organisations that help Tasmanians located in the vicinity of the proposed North West Transmission Developments project to manage cost of living pressures, improve wellbeing and enhance resilience.
The NWTD Community Benefits Sharing Program is scheduled to commence alongside the construction phase of the project. In the meantime, the NWTD project continues to support a range of community organisations in the footprint of the proposed project throughout the Design and Approvals phase.
Some community investment initiatives supported by the NWTD project have included:
- Rural Health Tasmania – supporting disengaged young people to make a positive difference across Smithton and Wynyard
- Kentish Community Men’s Shed – replacing a range of important tools to enable the continuation of community projects
- Burnie Community House – ‘Fakeaway’, helping create takeaway meals at home, reducing costs and making healthier choices
- City of Burnie Lions Club – purchase of a sewing machine and overlocker for clothing alteration lessons
- Whitemore Tennis Club – safety and access upgrade for community members
- Cradle Coast Mountain Bike Club – upgrading the Montgomery Loop mountain bike trail.
- Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden – funding new internet connection to livestream platypus at the Gardens
- Cuprona Bulldogs Clubhouse – supporting the development of their new clubhouse.
Fake-away initiative
The Burnie Community House offers a fortnightly “Fake-away” workshop to help participants create their own delicious homemade takeaway meals at a reduced cost and with nutrition front and centre. TasNetworks is proud to support this initiative, which aims to relieve cost-of-living pressures by offering an alternative when it comes to those pesky moments when we all want to give in to purchasing expensive takeaway food.
Sew-basic initiative
The City of Burnie Lions Club offers sewing sessions to community members to give them the skills required to mend or adapt their own clothes. TasNetworks is proud to support this initiative, which aims to assist with cost-of-living pressures. On the day of filming, the group made 45 neck warmers (35 donated to the Vinnies Winter Appeal and 10 to take home).
TasNetworks Community Grants Program
The TasNetworks Community Grants program provides funding for community groups and not-for-profit organisations to deliver projects in the community which seek to positively impact on our chosen focus areas.
Through the TasNetworks Community Grants Program, we empower the community to tackle the challenges posed by:
- Rising cost-of-living pressures
